  7. Boy am I embarassed.  I've been complaining about geoTerm 2.0 not working with
  8. CIS.  The problem was the CIS file which I (everyone) sets, informing CIS of my
  9. terminals needs.  It was set to EVEN parity for my old terminal. GeoTerm needs
  10. the CIS default settings set to ZERO or NONE.
  11.   If you have geoTerm problems just GO TERMINAL and reset it for geoTerm. You
  12. will problably need to use your old terminal to change these settings for the
  13. next time you use CIS.  Also it helps to log-on using Half-Duplex then switch
  14. to FULL-Duplex after your terminal type has been identified. : GeoRon.

  24. I gotten GeoTerm 2.0 to work with CIS, now how do I send a [ESCAPE] code? My
  25. old term us CTRL-: this isn't working for me with geoTerm 2.0.  I need the Code

  38.    I haven't gotten around to ordering the new Run GEOS disk yet, so this is
  39. just a guess.  The correct sequence for ESC should be CTRL-[ (that's CTRL
  40. left-square-bracket.) Try shifting that : and see if it does any good.  Unless
  41. GeoTerm is intercepting it, it oughta work.

  52. I just want to thank Ronnie for sharing the settings on GeoTerm to log onto
  53. CIS.  I've been playing around with the BRF setting to get the garbage off my
  54. screen. I think that the setting mentipned will help a lot!  Thanks!

  65. The BRF setting of 59 works well for the display, but not for uploading.  A
  66. setting of 60 or 61 allows me to upload. =geoRon=

  76. I appreciate that, Ron.  But what does that mean?  Should I view with the BRF
  77. set at one point for viewing and change to another for up and down loading? 
  78. That could be a definite pain.  As much as I do enjoy the idea of GEOTERM,
  79. VIDTEX has done very well for my use; thankyou.  It's just nice to be able to
  80. log onto CIS while I'm in GEOS without exiting the environment and going to
  81. VIDTEX.
  82.      What would be really nice is to have VIDTEX incorporated into the GEOS
  83. environment.  That would be truly super!  To have all the beauty of Vidtex in
  84. pull-down windows.  Now THAT would be a GEOTERM program I could fall in love
  85. with!  Meanwhile, I still experiment with this.
  86.      Another thought.  I get the initial Compuserve screen when I log on with
  87. GeoTerm but the rest of the menus turn out garbage.  Is it possible that the
  88. setting of nulls would help a little in the display?  I'll try that out for
  89. size.  But, tell me, what are the settings you have for your C64 in Geoterm and
  90. your profile online?  That would give me something more to go on.

  100. It's true!  GEOTERM DOES work on CIS!!!  Now it's MY turn to be embarrassed. I
  101. just discovered why my terminal was getting a lot of garbage.  Apparently
  102. copying the GeoTerm file jumbled some of the info from one disk to another. I
  103. logged onto CIS using the original disk that has the program and it worked just
  104. fine!  No garbage, no fuss and no muss!  I was happy.  I then copied the C64
  105. terminal file to the workdisk and now, here I am, logged on with my GEOTERM! 
  106. This is most convenient for retrieving my E-mail an getting some graphics from
  107. the various forums.  I can download the good stuff and stay in the GEOS
  108. environment to convert and ejoy!  What a joy!

  121. If I set the BRF to 60, things go well both ways, text display and file
  122. transmition.  GeoTerm 2.0 is an 8-bit term, generic format.  geoTerm can't be
  123. altered, so I had to change my online profile using my old term.  Set terminal
  124. type to OTHER, then changed screen profile to 21 lines by 80 columns. PARITY
  125. MUST be set to ZERO or NONE. Save the profile as your perament settings.  The
  126. next time you log-on, do so at HALf-duplex, once CIS ID's you, you can switch
  127. to FULL-duplex.  =geoRon.=

  136. Why settle for less? How about someone writing GEOnavigator. Then it would do
  137. everything for you just like those MAC guys have. For my term, BTP 64, I use
  138. separate entries for 300, 1200 text and uploading, and 1200 downloading. That
  139. way I don't have to remember anything. But I am going to start using GEOTERM
  140. 2.0 to download into my REU. I have been doing tests
  141.  to make sure it is really faster and cheaper. Saving to the 1541 was cutting
  142. my effective BAUD rate to about 640 BPS, but GEOTERM clocks in at about 1080
  143. BPS saving into the REU. So it seems worht logging off and then on later at
  144. 1200 under GEOS. Tony

  153. I have found that I average about 20K of saving messages and want to print them
  154. out right away, so I will use GEOTERM only for downloading huge files. It
  155. doesn't have any quick way to print out the capture buffer. Tony

  165. Did you know you can have more than one terminal setting with CIS?
  166.  
  167. You can logon to CIS with 72220,1726*oldterm or 72220,1726*geoterm.  But first
  168. you must define your alternate terminal settings.

  170. You can setup alternate terminal settings from your personal file area.  At the
  171. prompt in your PER area type TER PAR and you will see you current session
  172. parameters.  You can change them by typing things like - TER WIDTH 80, TER
  173. PAGSIZ 21 or TER RATE 300.  When you have the settings you want type something
  174. like - TERminal DEFination GEOTERM.

  176. Somewhere I have a captured file on all the things you can do with alternate
  177. settings.  Maybe I will look for the file.

  188. I tried GEOTERM at 1200 and was quite disturbed to see CIS was not reverting to
  189. 8N1 and I had to manually set it once in the forum with SET PARITY ZERO. When I
  190. went into DEFALT or TERMINAL, I found that there was no WORD option to set
  191. 8-bit words, as outlined in the USer Guide. Feedback said that WORD is no
  192. longer valid and once you set parity to zero, it assumes you want 8N1. So
  193. sometimes I get 8N1 after my password, sometimes not.
  194.  But you'll always get garbage at the Host Name: prompt, because CIS assumes a
  195. caller is using 7E1 until it learns different. Downloading into the REU is much
  196. faster at 1200 than the 1541. I should be able to do Xmodem at about 1080 BPS
  197. into the REU vs. 640 BPS into the 1541. Tony

  209. CIS should have a different setup for each speed you use.  It almost sounds
  210. like you are logging on at different baud rates.  If that is the case just
  211. logon at 1200 and set up things the way you want them.

  213. My users manual is dated 09/86 and doesn't mention WORD.  It does show a PARITY
  214. that can be set to ZERO, EVEN, ODD, or ONE.  I suggest you set to ZERO PARITY
  215. and see if that fixes your problem.

  230. upload that explainatory file?  Where can I find the intructions for this
  231. feature, on CIS?

  240. Ron, if you want the complete CIS documentation on how to  set up alternate
  241. terminal definitions enter PRO at the regular CIS exclamation mark (!) prompt.
  242. When you get to the OK prompt, enter HELp TERminal. When you get the

  246. prompt, enter 3 periods ( ...<CR> ). That'll get you the complete
  247. documentation, about 19 pages worth. This should answer all your questions, and
  248. then some.

  260. My User Guide is dated 05/88. On page 23, option 8 is Word length. But feedback
  261. says that option is no longer available and that PARITY ZERO should be
  262. sufficient. I think part of the problem is that sometimes when I log on, my
  263. PROFILE is not found or menu is not found. About half the time I get messages
  264. that something is not found or the host is not accesssible. Anyway, the other
  265. half of time, everything goes OK. Like today I got wisked right into Easyplex,
  266. no sweat. But for sure, the Host Name and ID: prompts will be garbled. Tony
